Ancient Herbal Wisdom
The use of herbs and medicinal plants has been the primary source of medicine in every culture since the dawn of civilization. For over 4000 years, plants used for medicines have been referred to as “herbs” from the Latin word herba. The term "herb" applies to any part of the plant having nutritional or medicinal properties. Some herbs are used as food and spices while others are used primarily for their medicinal qualities. Some have nutritional and medicinal qualities such as capsicum or red cayenne pepper and garlic. The science and art of using plants for healing is known as herbology or herbal medicine. According to the written and oral traditions, every culture has relied on the "natural chemistry" in plants for their therapeutic purposes. Even in the advent of modern medicine, plants are still used as a major source of medicines in many countries.
The Importance of Herbal Medicine
Today, there is a renewed interest in natural healing and a return to the roots of our God-given medicines. The costs of health care continue to rise astronomically, while its effectiveness is becoming diminished. Our modern medical system is a disease care system managing the symptoms of our maladies rather than healing them. Faced with the side effects and dangers of over-prescribed synthetic drugs, people are frustrated that pharmaceuticals and surgeries are not curing their illnesses nor eliminating their pain and discomforts.
Fortunately, we are learning that an integrative approach combining ancient herbal and natural healing wisdom with some of modern medicine can give us the benefits of both worlds. One may find a need for both especially in the case of critical care. However, there is no substitute for living a healthy lifestyle, taking responsibility for one’s own health and learning to combine the best from both worlds to be in vibrant health!
Herbalism and natural healing modalities nourish the body back to health, supporting it to function as it was originally created to do. Herbs are a superior food source loaded with nutrients to support the body’s natural healing process. Herbs do not cure; they nourish the body’s ability to heal itself.
This is why I use a combination of herbs and nutritional supplements to support the body through the cleansing and building phases of healing. By using Muscle Response Testing (Kinesiology) and other resonance testing, I can help a client determine which herbs or nutritional supplements are appropriate for their individual needs. Nature's Sunshine Products has been my primary line of herbs and nutritional supplements for myself, my family and my clients for over 22 years.
